FAQs

The Product

What is the alcohol percentage of Latanda?

Latanda is a non-alcoholic beverage range made from the unfermented juice of two separate white grape varietals– namely, Colombard (Latanda 205 Gourmet) and Muscat de Alexandria (Latanda Premium).

How is Latanda different from other grape juices?

Latanda is a single varietal “Product of Stellenbosch”– made from fresh seasonal  grapes which are pressed and bottled just days after picking.

Most other juices are reconstituted from “100%” pasteurised grape concentrate made from all manner of grapes— often ‘reject’ fruit which fails make the grade for wine-making or table consumption. This concentrate is then preserved using various chemical processes and stored until producers are ready to thin it out with water and/or deflavoured fruit juice (often pear or apple) to take to market.

Latanda is an estate-grade product, made under the watchful eye of some of Stellenbosch’s most experienced vintners.

How long can Latanda last in my cupboard?

If stored correctly at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, Latanda can easily last for up to 3 years.

Is Latanda suitable for diabetics?

As much as Latanda contains no added cane sugar (sucrose), it does contain natural sugars that are found in grapes, namely glucose and fructose— which can be harmful to diabetics.

Does Latanda contain any sulphur?

Yes. There is a trace quantity of sulphur in the juice as the grapes we use to make Latanda are sprayed with sulphur while on the vine to prevent mildew, and trace quantities are added in the factory process to prevent fermentation. As such, the trace levels of sulphur in our grape juice compares favourably to that of wine produced by South Africa’s leading wine estates.

Is Latanda organic?

While we take great care to ensure that the grapes used to make Latanda are farmed responsibly, our product is not organic.

Why is Latanda carbonated?

The bubbles serve to give the palate a refreshing lift. And we also happen to think bubbles are fun and festive.

Do You Use Any Artificial Colouring?

No, we do not. While our red grape juices are not “true reds” in the sense that they are made from white -skinned grapes rather than red-skinned grapes, we use a red grape skin extract to colour our product, and not industrial food colouring.
